Magical Uses of this Fruit at Halloween and Throughout the Year

Apple magic can help an individual find love. Although the most powerful time to perform many of these spells is on Halloween, also try them at other times of the year.

Slice an apple in half width-wise and you will find a pentacle; a star with five points representing air, earth, fire, water, and spirit. Is it this hidden, positive symbol of magic that associates it with love? Is the seasonality of apples what associates it with Samhain, the Pagan New Year? Whatever the case, below are simple spells and form of divination featuring apples.

Simple Apple Love Magic

Apples are associated with both the planet and goddess Venus, and therefore, love. Scott Cunningham, in his book The Magic in Food: Legends, Lore & Spells (Llewellyn Publications, 1992) suggests bringing true love into one’s life by carving a heart into the skin of the apple before eating.

Also, drink apple cider and bake (and eat) an apple pie. While making the pie, visualize an enjoyable time with an ideal mate. Cut steam vents in the top of a two-crusted pie in the shape of a heart. It's also said that individuals with partners can add to loving feelings to the relationship by cutting an apple in half and sharing it with their lover.

Apple Divination on Halloween

In Halloween, author Silver Ravenwolf (Llewellyn Publications, 1999) lists a variety of divinations with apples that can either help one find or summon true love.

Peel an apple’s skin in one long piece at midnight on Halloween. Toss the peel over the left shoulder or into a bowl of water. The peel will form the initial of the future partner’s name. Another option is for a woman with several suitors to peel the apple and then place a wet seed named for each boyfriend on her cheeks. The seed to fall off last will become the woman’s next lover.

Apple Love Spell for All Hallows Eve

Ravenwolf also suggests apple spells to bring love into one’s life. Remember to visualize the desired results while working these spells. Also, keep in mind that loving and accepting oneself will make it likelier for an individual to find someone else who will love him or her.

This spell requires a large apple, an apple corer, and a white taper candle. Fifteen minutes before midnight (on Halloween) hold the apple in both hands and think about bringing love into one’s life. Avoid thinking about a specific person as the goal should not be manipulating another person’s will. Core the apple.

Then, hold the candle in the hands, again thinking for a few minutes about love becoming a part of one’s life. Place the candle in the cored apple and say the words suggested by Ravenwolf: “Great Mother Goddess / Sweet, divine / Bring love to this heart of mine.” Watch the candle until it burns out while visualizing activities with one’s new love.

Although the magic practitioner can take advantage of apple magic at any time of the year, it is most associated with Halloween. Perform a spell to bring love into one’s life or share an apple with a lover to enhance feelings toward one another.
