Activists in pagan circles leap out of the broom closet, but pagan groups are not always listed in the yellow pages.

Finding folks who share an interest in the Craft or other earth-based spirituality requires detective work and a willingness to ask questions. The search for like-minded folks begins at a local book store, library, or computer keyboard. The answer to the search arrives in the span of hours or months, depending on the chosen route and time invested in the quest.

Before seeking the friendship of others, however, an individual may recall pagans are a diverse group. For example, druids are not Dianic witches. Some eclectic witches pay homage to goddesses associated with Africa and the Norse pantheon. Preconceived ideas have the potential to derail relationships. A pagan may willingly share ideas, but she is never under obligation to educate a seeker.

Visit Metaphysical Book Stores and Gift Shops

Like other book sellers, metaphysical book store managers realize signings by authors and discussions attract community members. During literary events, authors gain the opportunity to promote books, while readers get the chance to mingle with like-minded people and make new friends. Managers and owners publish upcoming events on their website or through newsletters. Sales associates of book shops also supply this information.

If a community lacks a New Age book store, then a local library becomes the next stop for an individual. In cases of libraries without pagan and Wiccan book store directories, a staff person will check the internet for sites that contain pagan book directories. www.witchvox.com provides a link not only for pagan store directories but also for message boards and e-groups.

Perhaps a store's location eliminates the possibility of attendance at literary events. Launching a book club presents another route for a woman or man who wishes to meet those with similar interests. Coffee houses or restaurants serve as meeting grounds. Before creating flyers for the club, the founder should consider the members she desires to attract, such as members of a certain age or gender.

Pagan Pride

Across United States, celebrants engage in Pagan Pride Day activities. Depending on the wishes of organizers, events include workshops and performances, which present occasions to strike up conversations with participants. Because the date of Pagan Pride Day varies from city to city, an individual may ask information from managers of book stores or gift shops. In search engines, typing key words such as Pagan Pride Day along with a desired region yields helpful results.

According to an ad in Pan Gaia magazine, Pagan Spirit Gathering is the oldest and largest pagan festival in America. A group known to educate the public, host Sabbath celebrations, and organize activities for the pagan community, Circle Sanctuary sponsors the fest. By clicking on PSG's website at http://www.circlesanctuary.org/psg/ and supplying an email address, readers receive updates about the next gathering.

Online networking

Online social network allows members to converse with pagans without leaving the kitchen. Enchanted Forest, Blessed Be-United Kingdom, and Mystic Moons are among networks which possess forums, groups, events listings, and store links for members. Site owners request an email address and a completed profile before visitors are allowed to join. An approval message will be sent to the email address. Spamming and harassment of other site members result in members being banned from the site.

A member of an online site sends invites to friends, alerting them to the existence of other sites. In this fashion, a membership in one site leads to the choice of joining other witch and pagan sites. Creators sometimes post badges on home pages, announcing their affiliation with groups who welcome new comers.

Unlike Grimm fairy tale witches and other creatures who live in isolation and plan mischief, witches and other pagans attend events, hold workshops, and network with others. Some are entrepreneurs, as shown by the ads placed in magazines with pagan audiences. As she would use with anyone else, an individual must use courtesy when seeking out pagans, and an enchanting relationship may await her.
