Pagan Veggie and Herb Indoor GardenSome Edible Plants are Excellent for Kitchens and Dining Areas
Many people don't think about having vegetable gardens in their homes. Not only are the plants beautiful, but they provide nourishment and save money.
The weather’s frigid, blustery and snowing or sleeting. Imagine harvesting and savoring fresh vegetables and herbs from a warm, tranquil place inside. Pagans believe all of nature is interrelated and a manifestation of the Supreme One of the Universe. Pagan gardens bring nature inside. Sabbats are based on the cycles of the seasons which sowing, growing and harvesting crops reflect. Vegetables for the GardenBeans (green), Bell and hot peppers, cabbage (miniature), carrots and beets (small rooted), cucumbers and squash (short-vined), eggplant, endive, leafed lettuces, onions, radishes, spinach, swiss chard and tomatoes. Plant SymbolismThe plants in the list all grow well indoors. The blossoms of flowering plants are edible, but, please do research to find out if other parts are toxic. Example: The stems of rhubarb make excellent pies and other desserts, but the leaves are poisonous.
Creating the GardenSelect plants according to symbolism, taste and care. There are excellent books and Websites with information about the requirements for individual plants. Vegetables need their own containers. Herbs with the same needs can share one or be placed in groups with their own pots. Small bunches of herbs, tied together with dental floss, hung from the ceiling to dry add a decorative touch to kitchens. Small fountains and a Norfolk Island pine, symbolic as preventing hunger, are great in dining areas. Related articles: Sources: The Complete Book of Houseplants and Indoor Gardening, Edwin M.
