Wiccan Rule of Three or Three-fold Law

Practitioners of Wicca often believe that if they practice good magic they will be rewarded threefold, while if they do harm they will suffer three times the misfortune they cause. This is the essence of the Wiccan Rule of Three or the Wicca Three-fold Law. Sometimes the law is stated in a simplified version as the Wiccan Law of Return: as one sows, so one shall reap, without the magnification by three.
The Three-fold Law Becomes Instinctive for Experienced Wiccans
The Wiccan Rule of Three may, at first, seem very restrictive, limiting a witch’s powers to cast Wiccan Spells as desired. However, with maturity and development on the Wiccan way, it will be seen that the Wiccan Law of Return is intertwined with the goal of achieving personal True Will. Everyone has a natural life purpose, the purpose of their life here on Earth; this personal imperative is known as True Will.
True Will may differ from short-term desires and choices, rather it is a deep and long-standing longing for fulfillment that may take years to discover and become manifest. When a Wiccan practitioner is following his or her True Will then they do not wish to cause any form of harm, and respecting the Wiccan Rule of Three becomes second nature.
Wiccan Love Spells and the Rule of Three
Anyone can lose their judgment in matters of romantic love; and for this reason it remains especially important to heed the Wiccan Three-fold Law when casting love spells. Wiccan Love Spells can be very powerful, so any negative consequences amplified three-fold and reflected back onto the spell caster could be very destructive indeed.
When casting Wiccan Love Spells, consider carefully the well-being of all others concerned, regardless of any powerful emotions at play. Make the health, happiness and fulfillment of each of the people involved absolutely paramount.
Is the Law of Return an Absolute Natural Law or Simply Wise Advice?
Opinions vary as to whether the Wiccan Law of Return is an absolute natural law, akin to the concept of karma in Buddhism, or simply summarizes wise advice to those new to Wicca. Ultimately this is a question of personal belief. Regardless of one’s view, the Wiccan Three-fold Law of Return provides an invaluable safeguard against unrestrained, and potentially unwise, magic spell casting.
