» Feature Writer Jill Stefko - Favorite Ostara Flower

Bluebells, Crocuses, Daffodils, Dogwood, Forsythias, Hyacinths, Irises, Jonquils, Lilacs, Narcissuses, Olive, Tulips and Violets are the flowers of spring and Ostara. We all have favorites.

I was thinking about my favorite spring flower and couldn't come up with one favorite. In their own ways, they all are for different reasons.

Tulips, lilacs and hyacinths are my favorites for their sweet scents.

Crocus is a favorite because it is the first to bloom.

Violets and bluebells are favored because they grow in the forests and fields without human cultivation.

Dogwood and forsythia are also favorites because I am very fond of flowering trees and bushes.

Irises are favored of their vibrant varying colors and they can be grown in ground under water, which, along with water lilies, makes a beautiful mini-pond.

Daffodils, jonquils and narcissuses are favorites because of their being unique. What makes these flowers so is that they belong to the same family. According to the American Daffodil Society (ADS), there is no difference between daffodils and narcissuses except for the color. The former is yellow; the latter, white. Jonquils are known for their robust scent.

Olive, despite the fact that I have not seen or smelled this flower, is favored because the fruit is one of my most liked foods.

All are favored because of the wonderful memories they evoke.

Does anyone else have a favorite or favorites and want to share what it isi or they are and why?
